The standardization organization Digital Audio Visual Council (DAVIC) has proposed to use the frame structure in MPEG-2 to place ATM cells in it. In this thesis, a study is done of the effectiveness of transporting ATM cells in MPEG2-TS and in Extended Super Frames. The study is based on simulations made with Matlab 5.1 and shows Bit Error Rate (BER) and Cell Loss Ratio (CLR) for the different multiplexing methods. The purpose of this thesis is to get an understanding of how the Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) interaction system, based on the DAVIC specification, performs. The simulations show that the Bit Error Rate and the Cell Loss Ratio for the DVB interaction system starts to decrease significantly at about 5 dB for OOB downstream transmission and at about 16 dB for IB downstream transmission, when adding Additive White Gaussian Noise only.

When only burst noise according to [9] is added to the signal, the Bit Error Rate and the Cell Loss Ratio for the DVB interaction system starts to decrease significantly at about 43 dB for OOB downstream transmission and about 59 dB for IB downstream transmission.

To achieve a very low Bit Error Rate for the DVB interaction system, an SNR of over 50 dB is needed for OOB downstream transmission and an SNR of over 65 dB is needed for IB downstream transmission.
